I worked for months, working 12- hours sanding floors, and taking wallpaper down with one baby strapped to my back while the other babies were climbing in the playpen. Ha! The house was starting to look nice, but there were a few things to be done. To complete this task, I was prepared to shell out a substantial amount of time and money shopping for my dream home. To keep the budget in check, I started going to estate sales with three brothers to search for diamonds in the rough. Our routine for the week was to spend Thursday-Saturday walking through estate sales and garage sales to purchase a mix of old and new pieces as well as spending weekends painting and sanding the driveway. Furniture looked this way... and that's where I found my love for restoration. After our home was fully decorated, I couldn't give up! I had a space on the local market, and even sold some items there. Then I bought more that I knew about and outgrew the area. In my own home, I began hosting open houses, where over 1000 guests could visit to purchase anything they liked on the 1st floor within a single weekend. Growing Days is the result of all this. My business was booming and my family was growing too. There was a perfect balance between starting a new business and becoming a mother. Growing Days fit perfectly. Nora was born in 2013 and became our fourth baby. It was a great direction for my business however, I needed some time off. I opted to take a little breaks from my old furniture and slow down to be at home with my children. This was just what I was looking for. After a while, without a phone, it began to ring. They asked for my assistance in decorating as well as renovations. Many of the people calling me were people who had came to my house at one of my furniture open houses. As I went along I added new clients to my list each day. But it wasn't long before I had several clients, and had a profitable home improvement business. Had you told me my company would become the basis for a DIY Network show, I likely would have laughed. Actually, I smile slightly when I recall it.
