Jessie James Decker........................Born Jessica Rose James, Decker's somewhat exotic birthplace was a product of her being raised in a military family. Decker's family moved to Louisiana in the age of nine. Decker then won a local talent contest for a performance of "I Would Like to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart" performed by Patsy Montana. When she was 15, Decker was living in Georgia. Once she began writing, she made frequent visits to Nashville and also visited music businesses and record labels in the hope of securing a contract. She was 17 when she gained the attention of the representative from independent label Big Yellow Dog Records who started selling her music to labels and artists. The demos of Decker were heard by Mercury Records president David Massey and then handed over to L.A. Reid of Island/Def Jam group affiliated label group L.A. Reid was able to sign Decker to a contract. Her debut album, a self-titled release under the name Jessie James arrived in August 2009. Jessie James had a moderately success debut album. Wanted, a song from the album reached the Top 40 singles chart. Although Decker was always an artist from the country scene, her album was produced and marketed to a broader audience the back of her mind. Decker fought with the label to gain greater control over her music after two other singles fell. Her subsequent album, Boys in the Summer is more country-oriented. The second album of Decker, dubbed by the title Daughter of a Gypsy and Sweet American Dreams by Mercury Records was shelved because Mercury noticed the weak performance of three of Decker's singles on country radio charts.
